John F. Strange, 80, of Hazel Dell, Illinois passed away at 8:56 pm on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 am on Monday, December 21, 2015 at the Hazel Dell Cemetery with Military Rites. Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup is assisting the family.
John was born on November 5, 1935 in Hazel Dell, the son of Elsworth and Stella Pearl (Yelton) Strange. He married Kay Luke on December 22, 1957. She survives. Also surviving are sons Brad (Sherri) Strange of Martinsville and Doug (Kathy) Strange of Hazel Dell; daughter Dorinda (Rick) Phillips of Casey; sisters Edie (Bill) Brandenburg of Atwood, Helen (Jim) Wade of Casey; brothers Kenneth (Hazel) Strange of San Antonio, TX, Donald (Peggy) Strange of Sanford, NC; grandchildren Bailey (Andy) Kemper, Sydney Strange, Lucas DonHou, Garett Strange, Waylon Strange, Kayla Collier, Jamie (Chris) LaPlante, Kacie (Brandon) Moore, Ashbie Phillips; great grandchildren Aleah and Bradlee Kemper and Tavia and Tenzia Collier; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Charles Strange, one infant brother and an infant daughter Crystal.
John worked at M & E Drilling in Casey for 17 years. He then worked and retired from Anamet for over 30 years. He also worked at Keith Wattleworth Farms. John served his country during the Vietnam War as a member of the United States Army from ’59 to ’61, joining the Reserves until ’65. John enjoyed fishing and hunting.
