Illinois vehicle owners will still be on their own when it comes to renewing their license plate stickers, even after approval of a stopgap state spending plan. Secretary of State Jesse White says he’s still studying whether the money is there to resume the longstanding practice of mailing reminders of the date when stickers are about to expire. Since White’s office stopped sending out the notices last year in a money-saving move, the office has collected an additional four-and-a-half-million-dollars in late fees from drivers who apparently needed those reminders.
