Rauner Laying Off Political Hires By IDOT
(Springfield, IL) — Governor Rauner is firing a group of workers who held controversial positions at IDOT. His office says the governor sent layoff notices yesterday to 29-employees classified as “staff assistants.” A 2014 report by the state’s top ethics investigator determined the special positions were created to hire people based on political considerations instead of qualifications. The probe also found that this type of hiring started under former Governor Rod Blagojevich and continued throughout ex-Governor Pat Quinn’s administration.
