According to a recent press release from Illinois State Police District 10 a personal injury traffic crash occurred the morning of Wednesday, September 7th at 8:21 AM along U.S. Route 45 Southbound which is approximately 1/8 mile south of Leverett Road in Champaign County.
Three vehicles were involved, which included drivers Anthony Richard Hakl of Loda, IL, (Unit 1), Parker Wolf, of Rantoul, IL, (Unit 2), and Carolyn M. Ross of Gifford, IL (Unit 3). Hakl also had a female passenger with him also from Loda.
The release indicates Units 1 and 2 were traveling southbound while Unit 3 was traveling northbound when they all were approaching the same location along U.S. Route 45. A witnesses stated Unit 1 was in the driving lane and changed lanes into the passing lane, reportedly cutting off Unit 2. Unit 1 and Unit 2 made contact, sending Unit 2 into the center median where it overturned into northbound lanes into the path of Unit 3. Unit 2 landed on top of Unit 3 in the driving lane.
The driver of unit 2 was transported by ambulance to a hospital for serious injuries and unit 3 was air-lifted by helicopter to a hospital for serious injuries. All were wearing their seat belts and the crash remains under investigation at this time.
