Two struggling Little Okaw Valley teams matched up Friday night in Cumberland. Cumberland came in 0-3 and played their fourth straight home game to open up the season against 1-2 Martinsville who won their first game and has since lost two straight.
Both teams scored a touchdown in the first quarter but neither team converted on an extra point and was tied 6-6 after the first.
Cumberland opened up the scoring in the second quarter with two short Lewis runs and a Magee interception returned for a touchdown to record 24 total second quarter points and led 30-6 at halftime.
Martinsville did not score after the first quarter where Cumberland rolled to a 52-6 win for their first win of the year.
A Kingery eight yard run in the third quarter with the two point conversion successful were the only points scored in the third.
A short Kingery run and a Butler run in the fourth quarter added 14 more for the Pirates and they sealed their first win of the season.
With the win, Cumberland is now 1-3 on the year and 1-0 in conference play. They will hit the road for the first time this season to travel to Palestine next wee.
With the loss, Martinsville falls to 1-3 and has lost three straight and 0-1 in conference play. The Bluestreaks will host Villa Grove (1-3) next week.
