Sullivan took on Meridian on Friday night in a Central Illinois Conference game. Both teams came in at 0-2 in the Conference, Sullivan was 2-2 overall, Merdian was 0-4.
After no score in the first quarter, Meridian’s Gage Hollgrath ran in from one yard out to give the Hawks the first lead of the game.
Sullivan answered with a touchdown of their own on a one yard run from Brett Tuttle and took the lead with an extra point kicked by Tuttle.
Another second quarter score from Meridian gave them the lead right back. This time it was a 38 yard pass from Clint Henington to Braeden Durbin to lead 12-7 over Sullivan at halftime.
Sullivan’s defense came alive in the second half and the Redskins won 21-12.
Sullivan scored first in the second half. In the third quarter, Tuttle hit Cam Kesterson on a 40 yard pass to go up 14-12.
Sullivan extended their lead in the fourth quarter with a Drew Hubbard three yard run and Sullivan shut out Meridian in the second half to win 21-12.
With the win, Sullivan improves to 3-2 overall and 1-2 in Conference play. The Redskins will take on Clinton at home next week.
Meridian remains without a win after the loss to Sullivan. They are now 0-5 overall and 0-3 in Conference games. The Hawks play at Shelbyville (3-2) next week.
