Anita L. Cowger, age 68, of Effingham, Illinois, and former resident of Rose Hill, Illinois, passed away at 12:44 PM – Thursday, March 16, 2017, at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham, Illinois.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM – Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois, with David McConnell officiating. Burial will be in the Sumner Cemetery in Sumner, Illinois. Visitation will be held 5:00 – 7:00 PM – Monday, March 20, 2017, at the funeral home. Anita was born on December 31, 1948, in Watson, Illinois, the daughter of Leon and Lela (Wright) Stiffler. She married David Cowger, and he preceded her in death on November 26, 1988.
Anita worked as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant for several years at Newton Rest Haven in Newton, Illinois. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Effingham, Illinois.
Anita enjoyed singing, gardening, watching western movies and spending time with her family.
Anita is survived by: Children – Cecelia Kessler (special friend Tony Stepp), Caryn (Chris) Cross and Michael Cowger all of Effingham, Illinois, Grandchildren – Ashley, Heather, Courtney, DeAnna, Lacee, Brittany, Erika, Alec, Tylor, Tristan, Treyton, Natalie, Kaitlyn and Sierra, 8 Great Grandchildren, Brother – Vernon Stiffler of Effingham, Illinois and Sisters – Barbara Vanatta of Greenup, Illinois, Linda Wolff of Altamont, Illinois, Sharon Stiffler of Effingham, Illinois, Elaine Phelan of Little Rock, Arkansas, Wanda McCoy of Effingham, Illinois and Vickie Stiffler of Effingham, Illinois
Anita was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Nancee Forde and a brother Charles Stiffler.
