A local collaboration means injured K-9s can will be able to get emergency treatment.
WEIU-TV reports the University of Illinois and Arrow Ambulance are teaming up to provide medical transportation for injured police dogs.
Officials with Carle Regional EMS and Arrow Ambulance say a U of I veterinarian will train Arrow crew members in dog emergency medical care.
The training will be offered to K-9 officers in Champaign, Douglas, and Vermilion counties.
The U of I College of Veterinary Medicine says their facility has treated nearly 60 police dogs in the past five years.
