According to WANDTV online, the Pana IL, fire department responded to a house fire this morning around 5:40 am at the 800 block of East Second Street. An officer who was one of the first to arrive on the scene learned from the residents that two small children were still inside the house. An officer and several fire firefighters first attempt at going inside the house to rescue the children were unsuccessful as the smoke and heat were too extreme. As more fire fighters arrived on scene they knew any more attempts would be futile, if the fire wasn’t brought under control. Once it was under control, they reentered the home and were able to find the 2 year old and 3 month old children deceased on the 2nd floor. The parents have been transported to the hospital for their injuries and the police and fire department are still investigating how the fire was caused.
