A Mattoon man faces multiple charges following his arrest early this morning. According to the Mattoon Police Department, 21-year-old Daniel P. Quainter are arrested at the intersection of Lerna Road and Old State Road at 3:45 a.m. He was charged with attempted aggravated armed robbery with a firearm, possession of a defaced firearm (two counts), and aggravated fleeing and eluding police.
The incident with Quainter began at approximately 3:30 a.m. when he allegedly forced his way into a local motel room and attempted to rob the occupants therein at gunpoint. Quainter then fled in a vehicle, leading police on a car chase at speeds of just over 100 mph. Quainter lost control of his car while attempting to turn onto Old State Road and became stuck in a ditch where police took him into custody. Quainter was found to be armed with 2 loaded pistols that had their serial numbers defaced from the weapons, and approx. 150 rounds of ammunition. Quainter was taken to the jail.
