Washington Savings Bank partnered with area schools to celebrate Teach Children to Save Day on April 28th. More than 1,000 local students from Effingham, Altamont, Beecher City and Mattoon were taught the difference between needs and wants, and explored ways to save, spend, and share their money.
Established by the American Bankers Association Foundation in 1997, Teach Children to Save and the ABA’s other financial education initiatives have helped reached 8.9 million young people Nationwide through the commitment of more than 225,000 Bank volunteers.
“Familiarizing students with financial education fundamentals at an early age puts them on a path to becoming smart money-managing adults,” said David Doedtman, Bank President. “Teach Children to Save is a great opportunity for us to share our passion for financial education and improve our local community.”
Washington Savings Bank has been participating in the Teach Children to Save program for over 5 years. Throughout the years, we have worked hard to improve and modify our presentations to keep the students interested with new material. If your school is interested in participating in next year’s program call any of our 3 locations in Effingham and Mattoon.
