From a recent press release from Illinois State Police District 10:
Extreme crosswinds and dust have created zero visibility on a stretch of I-72 from Sangamon County to Macon County MP 122-128 in both directions. A personal injury crash has already occurred and ISP is attempting to set up a diversion at this time. Please use extreme caution and expect delays in the this area for the time being. Avoid the Interstate if you can until visibility increases.
Reports also indicate low visibility is a concern in all areas of District 10 and interstates including I-72, I-74, and I-55 due to the winds. Some tips include: Travel at a safe speed, use your headlights, use hazards if you have to reduce your speed well below normal levels, try to use the right lane of the Interstate if traveling slower than other traffic, try not to break suddenly but let off your accelerator and slow down safely.
