Chicago School Leaders Want To Borrow Additional Half-A-Billion-Dollars
(Chicago, IL) — Taxpayers in Chicago are looking at a lot of debt to get the city’s schools through the next few months. Just days after Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel proposed borrowing 389 million-dollars to cover the next few weeks, CPS leaders yesterday announced a plan to borrow 500 million for ‘long term debt.’ Much of the money will go to repay the last round of loans Chicago schools took-out to make pension and payroll payments last year.
