Tomorrow is the 100th anniversary of the third-deadliest tornado in Illinois history – a twister than killed 91 and injured nearly 600 in the Mattoon-Charleston area. A commemoration event will be held at the Lincoln-Douglas Debate Museum at the Coles County Fairgrounds, starting at 1:00 tomorrow. A new documentary which features interviews from descendants of those affected by the tornado will be featured. In addition, displays featuring pictures and artifacts from the tornado will be featured at Booth Library at EIU, and the Coles County Historical Society’s museum at the Mattoon Depot, starting tomorrow.
