One semi overturns along I-74 during the morning hours of Thursday, June 8th at milepost 212.5 near Vermilion County. According to preliminary details from Illinois State Police District 10, investigations shows Gerardo Alicea Robles, 54, of Cincinnati, OH was traveling east when he attempted to switch lanes from the left to the right. While doing so the steer tire of his truck tractor possibly blew, causing the semi to lose control and overturn. The semi struck a guardrail and contents from the trailer were thrown onto the roadway and into the ditch.
The driver was wearing a seatbelt and was uninjured due to the accident. Robles received a citation for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid a Crash. Both lanes along I-74 remained closed for hours due to clean up of spilled trailer items. A further investigation by the ISP Commercial Motor Vehicle Officer will be conducted at a later time.
