Legislature Approves Phone Bill Tax
(Springfield, IL) — State lawmakers appear ready to call Governor Rauner’s bluff on a threat to veto a bill to raise phone taxes for 911 systems across the state. The House today approved a bill that would allow a range of phone tax hikes, including one in Chicago that would be used to fund one of the city’s pension funds. The Senate has already passed the bill, and the margins in each house are large enough to overcome a veto, if Rauner follows through with a threat to reject the bill.
