House Moves Toward Budget Deal
(Springfield, IL) — The Illinois House is taking big steps toward a budget deal, but it’s not certain the job can be completed by midnight and the end of the fiscal year. On a bi-partisan 90-25 vote, the House today gave initial approval to an appropriations bill. It still needs another vote and concurrence by the Senate. Still to come are votes on the revenue bill with its income tax increase to four-point-95-percent. House Speaker Michael Madigan says the House will be in session tomorrow if necessary and he’s written a letter to the bond rating houses, asking them to hold off any downgrades on the state’s credit for a few days. Still unresolved are those non-budgetary issues that Governor Rauner has insisted be part of a budget deal.
