(Macomb, IL) — A former dormitory on the Western Illinois University campus in Macomb was imploded today after decades of use. Hundreds showed up to watch the implosion of Higgins Hall, which lasted just three seconds. University officials decided to bring the building down after an assessment revealed several issues that would take an estimated 48-million-dollars to repair. The 50-year-old structure had leaking walls and windows, unreliable elevators, broken sprinkler and air conditioning systems as well as leaking pipes.
