(Chicago, IL) — Mayor Rahm Emanuel says Chicago will file a lawsuit tomorrow against the U.S. Justice Department. The lawsuit will challenge the government’s plan to withhold grant money from so-called “sanctuary cities” that shield immigrants. Emanuel said the suit will be filed in federal court over the new U.S. policy the mayor says will force Chicago to choose between its commitment to being a sanctuary city and its need for grant money. Emanuel says we “are not going to be in a position of picking our values of who we are as a welcoming city.”
