Florida has suspended seven players, including standout wide receiver Antonio Callaway, for their Sept. 2 season opener against Michigan. “We have a small group of players that have made some choices that are extremely disappointing,” coach Jim McElwain said in a statement.
Callaway, rated the 44th-best draft prospect by NFLDraftScout.com, caught 54 passes for 721 yards and three touchdowns last season. He was cited for marijuana possession in May, although McElwain said last month that he hadn’t suspended Callaway. The other players suspended for the opener are linebackers James Houston and Ventrell Miller, offensive lineman Kadeem Telfort and defensive linemen Keivonnis Davis, Jordan Smith and Richerd Desir-Jones.
