(Key West, FL) — Key West and Florida’s Lower Keys are opening this morning for residents who evacuated before Hurricane Irma to return. The storm devastated the island chain and officials say services there are scarce. Some people were allowed into more northern areas yesterday and checkpoints are set up to make sure only residents make it in. Monroe County Mayor George Nugent said Saturday that the roads are clear by power, water and sewer service are sketchy at best. A heavy law enforcement presence is in the area to discourage looting.
