(Mexico City) — A powerful earthquake in Mexico is leaving at least 42 people dead. The governor of Morelos, which is a state south of Mexico City, released the preliminary number following the 7.1-magnitude quake that was centered about 70 miles southeast of the capital city. Rescue operations are underway in some neighborhoods to rescue people that may be still inside buildings that are now mounds of concrete and brick.

(Mexico City) — The scenes are devastating following a strong earthquake in Mexico City. The collapse of one video was caught on video while people gathered dangerously close in the street nearby.
Several buildings collapsed from the 7.1-magnitude quake centered about 70 miles southeast of the capital city. Rescue operations are underway in some neighborhoods to rescue people that may be still inside buildings that are now just giant mounds of concrete and brick. The quake happened on the anniversary of a quake that struck Mexico City in 1985, killing at least five-thousand people. So far there’s no word on how many people may have been killed or injured from today’s quake.
Several videos posted on social media show buildings swaying violently during the quake. One video shows tourists on a boat that’s bobbing up and down due to the waves caused by the shaking.
