According to a press release from the Charleston Fire Department, CFD was dispatched to 1524 2nd Street in Charleston for a report of a structure fire at 10:59am. Upon arrival crews found smoke coming from the structure. Crews made entry and found the home to be vacant. The fire was contained to the stairway going to the second floor and on the second floor. There was smoke damage throughout the structure. There were no injuries. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Charleston Fire Department, Charleston Police Department, and the Illinois State Fire Marshall’s Office. Charleston was assisted by the Mattoon Fire Department.
