Olympic Torch Lit At Birthplace Of Ancient Games
(Olympia) — The Olympic torch is officially on its way to Pyeongchang for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games. International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach says it’s now up to South Korea to “keep the dynamism” for the last few months of preparations. The flame was lit at the birthplace of the ancient games in Greece today by an actress playing an ancient pagan priestess. The torch will make its way around Greece for the next week, before arriving at the Acropolis to be handed over to the PyeongChang 2018 Organizing Committee. From there, the torch will be flown to South Korea, where it will pass through eight major cities and all nine of the nation’s provinces, before arriving in Pyeongchang for the opening ceremonies on February 9th.
