Michigan AG One Of Three Who Want Illinois River Closed-Off
(Lansing, MI) — Michigan’s attorney general is one of three Great Lakes AG’s who say it’s time to wall-off the Illinois River. Attorney General Bill Schuette yesterday joined Minnesota AG Lori Swanson, and Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro in calling for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to wall-off the Illinois River near Joliet to keep Asian Carp out of the Great Lakes. The Army Corps has a plan to install an electric barrier, but Illinois leaders are balking at the cost. Schuette says a wall would cost just six million-dollars and protect the lakes at the same time.
