(Washington, DC) — Natural gas prices are jumping this week as thousands of Americans in the North and East Coast regions crank up their thermostats because of plunging temperatures. As the bitter cold weather settles in below freezing, gas prices are increasing by more than ten-percent this week. Experts say prices rose more than five-percent today alone. Until now, the warmer winter weather has suppressed natural gas prices, but as even colder weather creeps in prices are expected to skyrocket. Meteorologists say the strongest and coldest yet weather could come between January 4th and 6th.
They say warmer weather is being pushed back and isn’t expected to emerge until mid- to late January. Meteorologists say the natural gas price hike is entirely weather driven.
