The man charged in the altercation that led to the death of another man pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter yesterday. Officials say 58-year-old Robert Pendergast, of Effingham entered the plea during a pre-trial hearing and was sentenced to three years in prison. Pendergast was accused of choking Corey Stice, also of Effingham during the incident in May. Stice later died. Pendergast was given credit for 229 days served. A separate count of aggravated battery was dismissed as part of the plea agreement.
