(Chicago, IL) — Governor Rauner is pushing to make property tax assessments an issue in his reelection campaign. Standing with a group of south suburban homeowners Thursday, Rauner said he’d sign an executive order barring state lawmakers from acting as lawyers for property assessment appeals. He said it’s a conflict of interest for anyone who has influence on property taxes to profit from fighting those taxes. He also said he’d follow up his order with a bill to ban the practice in which many prominent Democrats take part, including House Speaker Michael Madigan and powerful Chicago alderman Ed Burke.
