ISBE: Illinois Needs To Double Education Spending
(Springfield, IL) — The Illinois State Board of Education says Illinois lawmakers need to almost double what the state is spending on public schools. But no one at the State Board yesterday could say where Illinois will find the extra seven billion-dollars that they are suggesting be sent to local schools. State school leaders yesterday approved a budget request for next year that hits 15-and-a-half billion-dollars, and that’s seven billion more than the current state budget. Lawmakers say it’s unrealistic to expect that lawmakers can find that much money in just one year.
