On Tuesday, January 23rd two separate traffic crashes occurred along I-74, eastbound, at milepost 176 within similar time from one another. Preliminary details from Illinois State Police, District 10 indicate unit 1 lost control of his vehicle for an unknown reason and struck the right guardrail, which caused him to spin out of control into the eastbound lanes, striking unit 2. Both unit 1 and 2 came to a rest in the center median.
Meanwhile, the second crash followed not too long after when unit 3 approached the first crash and swerved to avoid contact with the vehicles. Unit 3 then struck the right guardrail and came to a rest in the right ditch. The driver of unit 1 was transporting legitimate currency for a video gaming terminal operator and both lanes of eastbound traffic were closed for one hour to remove the currency form the roadways.
At this time the names of those involved have not been released. Unit 3 was transported to an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The driver of unit 1 was cited for driving too fast for conditions while the driver of unit 3 was cited for driving while license revoked and operating a motor vehicle with no insurance.
