(Charlottesville, VA) — The investigation into today’s train crash involving several lawmakers could take several days. One person died in this morning’s crash in Virginia between a garbage truck and a train carrying Republican lawmakers to a retreat. NTSB board member Earl Weener says it’s too soon to comment about what might have caused the crash. Weener remarked that a variety of factors will be considered, including the backgrounds of everyone who was controlling a vehicle and whether they were distracted or under the influence. Weener emphasized the NTSB’s mission is to figure out what happened, why it happened, and to make recommendations to make sure it doesn’t happen again. When asked if the crash could be the result of hacking, Weener said that if there’s any indication the crash was intentional, it’ll be handed over to the FBI.
