Mattoon Police Detective Michael A. Johnson was recently certified as a Digital Evidence Acquisition Specialist by the Department of Homeland Security. Detective Johnson attended a two (2) week course at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, Georgia. Detective Johnson is part of the Computer Forensics program at the Mattoon Police Department. The course matter at Glynco included a basic overview of computer forensics, imaging electronic data storage devices, preservation of hash values, and maintaining the integrity of data for introduction into a courtroom setting.
This certification is the first of three schools that Detective Johnson is expected to attend to further his education in the field of computer forensics.
Michael is a 2006 graduate of Charleston High School, and a 2012 graduate of Eastern Illinois University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in History. He also served in the United States Marine Corp. from 2006-2012 as a Combat Engineer and was deployed for tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. He joined the Mattoon Police Department in 2013.
