The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch in effect from 6pm CST this evening through Saturday evening (12:00a.m 2/25) for the following counties in our Illinois listening area:
Cumberland, Clark, Effingham, Jasper, Crawford, Clay, Richland, and Lawrence.
Â
* Rain will move into the area this evening, with occasional rain through Saturday evening. The rain may be heavy at times, especially on Saturday. Around 2 inches of rain are expected through Saturday evening, though some locally higher totals are possible in thunderstorms.
* This area has received up to 2 inches of rain so far this week, and the ground is saturated. Much of the rain will be unable to be absorbed into the soil, resulting in flooding of low lying areas, and near ditches and streams. Flooding along area rivers will be enhanced with this additional runoff.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
