U Of I Faculty Want Crackdown On ‘Unofficial Chief’
(Urbana, IL) — Faculty members at the University of Illinois are tired of seeing the ‘unofficial Chief,’ and they want something done about it. The school’s faculty senate is scheduled to vote next week on a resolution that calls on the school to ban ‘unofficial Chief Illiniweck’ from basketball and football games. The U of I ended its mascot, the Chief, back in 2007. But supporters are trying to keep the memory alive. The school is also prepping for a ‘discussion’ on the Chief for sometime in April.
