Several educators in Florida are protesting new legislation that could potentially arm teachers in classrooms. The Broward County Teacher’s Union gathered in Tamarac yesterday outside Fort Lauderdale to push back against legislators in Tallahassee. They’re opposing a provision to a Florida Senate bill that would essentially have teachers carry guns in the classroom. The provision comes in the wake of the Valentine’s Day shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, where 17 people died.
The Florida Senate met yesterday to discuss the highly debated and wide ranging bill that addresses school safety and gun regulations. Lawmakers have only six days left in the current legislative session to work on the provision.
