Flu season seems to be winding down a bit but child deaths from the flu are still on the rise. The CDC reports that the number of doctor visits for the flu has declined for the third week in a row. Among those with the illness, more are contracting less severe strains. But hospitalizations from the flu are still up, from 75 people per 100-thousand in the middle of February to 82 per 100-thousand as of February 24th. Authorities report 114 children have died from the flu this season. The CDC still recommends people get a flu shot, despite its reduced effectiveness this year.
