FBI Digging For Buried Treasure In Pennsylvania?
(Benezette Twp., PA) — Some treasure hunters say they know why the FBI is digging in a remote spot in Western Pennsylvania: gold. Local treasure hunters say they believe representatives from the FBI and Department of Conservation and Natural Resources have been digging in Benezette Township, Elk County looking for gold dating back to the time of the Civil War and Abraham Lincoln. In 2008, a treasure hunting team said it found gold in that area that President Lincoln ordered to be paid to Union soldiers. The group said at the time the federal government wouldn’t allow them to dig it up.
