(Miami, FL) — The Florida Department of Transportation says it was warned about cracking in the bridge near Florida International University, two days before it collapsed. In a statement out tonight, the agency admits it received a voicemail from an engineer about the potential problem, but did not listen to it until today. FDOT says the voicemail was left on an employee voicemail but that employee was out on assignment and not able to listen to the voicemail until today. In the statement, the agency stressed the call did not indicate the crack was a “life-safety issue.” The bridge was in the final stages of completion before it crashed onto the roadway below, killing at least six people.
