(Manchester, NH) — President Trump says the U.S. must get much tougher on drugs. In New Hampshire today, Trump said he wants the death penalty for some drug dealers. Laying out his new opioid strategy, Trump noted that many families are dealing with terrible hardships because of opioid abuse. Trump vowed that the “scourge of drug addiction in America will stop.” New Hampshire has been hit especially hard by the national opioid crisis.
Trump vowed to hold doctors, traffickers and drug manufacturers accountable. He condemned the over-prescribing of drugs in the U.S. and said he wants to see a one-third reduction in prescriptions for powerful painkillers. Trump promoted efforts to craft non-addictive painkillers and suggested those efforts may pay off soon. He also said the U.S. should get behind the goal of raising a generation of drug-free children.
