(Puna, HI) — Hawaii is on alert after the Big Island is rattled by volcanic eruptions and earthquakes. The island felt its biggest earthquake since 1975 yesterday, when a magnitude-6.9 quake struck near the south slope of the Kilauea [[ KILL-uh-WAY-uh ]] volcano. More seismic activity is expected today. Kilauea, meanwhile, is oozing lava from several large fissures, forcing nearby residents to evacuate.
