Two people were injured in an ATV accident Saturday afternoon in Jasper County.
According to the Illinois State Police, a four-wheeler driven by 18-year-old Cole Horner, of Dundas, with a 16-year-old female passenger, was stopped when another ATV driven by 19-year-old Seth Meinhart, of Newton rear-ended Horner’s ATV. Mienhart and his passenger, 23-year-old Stacey Smithenry, also of Newton, were both thrown from the vehicle. Both were transported to Richland Memorial Hospital by private vehicle. Meinhart was later flown to Carle Foundation Hospital. None of the riders were wearing helmets.
Meinhart was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and Meinhart and Horner were each charged with operating a non-highway vehicle on a road.
