FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MATTOON – Two engaging activities are among the highlights of the second week of the summer read program at the Mattoon Public Library.
On Tuesday afternoon (May 29), elementary students are invited to make an edible gingerbread Parthenon as part of a trip to Greece.
On Thursday morning (May 31), children of all ages are invited to a program delivered by staff from the Douglas-Hart Nature Center on Ms. Drizzle & the Magic Book Box.
The Parthenon construction, a program designed for students from second to fifth grades, begins at 1:30 p.m. in the programing room on the second floor. The activity around Greece and the Parthenon, a former temple dedicate to the goddess Athena, goes with the summer read theme that “Reading Can Take You Anywhere.”
The Douglas-Hart led program is planned for the children’s area on the second floor. It begins at 10 a.m. Thursday. Ms. Drizzle arrives with her Magic Book Box and creature sidekick in an adventure to far away places. Ms. Drizzle transforms into impossible forms to discover the solution to a mysterious creature problem.
