(Beijing) — U.S. officials are on the ground in North Korea as they try to lay the groundwork for an upcoming summit between President Trump and Kim Jong Un. NBC News correspondent Janis Mackey Frayer says they’re going to have their work cut out for them.
The U.S. delegation crossed into North Korea yesterday. Officials said the talks will focus on the substance of the summit while another team of U.S. officials will be in Singapore concentrating on firming up logistics for the proposed meeting. Trump abruptly cancelled the proposed June 12th summit last week over what he called “harsh rhetoric” from North Korea. As it stands now, however, the U.S. is continuing to prepare for what would be an historic meeting between the two leaders.
