According to a press release from MPD, Mattoon Police arrested Seantrez L. Isom, 24 years of age of Chicago, IL, for the offenses of Burglary and Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle. The arrest occurred on 6/26/18 at 2:44am in the 100 block of Miller Road in Mattoon. The arrest occurred after the vehicle Mr. Isom was traveling in wrecked at a curve on IL RT 316 just North of Dewitt.
The incident began on 6/25/18 at approximately 8:12pm, when MPD was called to CVS regarding two male subjects stealing alcohol from a store. Video surveillance footage showed the male subjects, and a description of the vehicle they were traveling in was provided to police as well. At approximately 9:19pm, the Charleston Police Department located the vehicle on IL RT 16 between Charleston and Mattoon, and in attempting to stop the vehicle, it fled from the police. Charleston Police ended their pursuit of the vehicle. The vehicle continued towards Mattoon, where Mattoon Police located the vehicle turning North onto Lerna RD off IL RT 16. A short pursuit by Mattoon Police then ensued, however was quickly terminated due to the suspect vehicle’s high rate of speed. It was after this the vehicle continued North and crashed at a curve just North of Dewitt on IL RT 316. Police quickly responded to the crash site, and observed the occupants had exited the vehicle and fled the scene. Officers also observed at this time the vehicle was listed as stolen out of Chicago.
After an extensive search for the vehicle’s occupants, MPD officers eventually located the two alleged male occupants of the vehicle, one being Mr. Isom, at BP Gas Station on Miller RD in Mattoon, at which time they were arrested at 2:44am. The second male occupant of the vehicle accompanying Mr. Isom was a 16 year old juvenile. Both subjects were taken to MPD, where they were interviewed by police, and were then charged with Burglary to CVS, and Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle. Mr. Isom was taken to the Coles County Jail, and the juvenile was released to a family member to later be petitioned into juvenile court.
Police learned during the interviews conducted, there was allegedly a third male, as well as a female who was also in the vehicle prior to it crashing, however their names are not known.
There is also a third unknown male said to have been in the vehicle. This unknown male is shown in the CVS footage wearing the “geek” shirt.
