(Charlottesville, VA) — A jury is convicting James Fields Jr. of first-degree murder for driving his car into a crowd of counter-demonstrators and for killing one woman and injuring 40 others. Fields was one of the people attending a Unite the Right rally in August 2017 that became violent. The 21-year-old faces life in prison for killing 32-year-old Heather Heyer and wounding others. He also faces up to 20 years for other charges. Fields will be sentenced after victims have a chance to give their impact statements. He also faces the death penalty in a second trial on federal hate crime charges.
