A homeless man was arrested in Mattoon on New Year’s Eve and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting a peace officer. According to the Mattoon Police Department, 26 year ole Lee Hearns approached a police officer who was directing traffic during the Standerfer Construction fire, and began shouting profanities and claimed the officer was a racist. Hearns then directed his attention to a bystander in the area and was subsequently arrested. Hearns resisted arrest, claimed that the officer was a member of the klan, and was then taken to the Coles County jail.
A Mattoon woman was taken into custody on New Year’s Day on a warrant of arrest for aggravated criminal sexual assault. 30-year old Lea Jordan arrested in the 400 block of West Park Plaza. The charge alleges that Jordan was having relations with a minor. Also, Jonathan Jones of Mattoon was arrested on New Year’s Day and charged with domestic battery and aggravated unlawful restraint. According to the Mattoon Police Department, the 33 year man allegedly battered a woman and then prevented her from leaving his residence by threatening her with a crowbar. The victim was treated for minor injuries at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
A 19 year old Mattoon man was taken into custody on Saturday in the 300 block of Broadway. Mattoon PD says Jacob A. Leber declined to provide his name as attempted to walk away from an office who was conducting an investigation. He then resisted arrest. The officer had been dispatched to speak with Leber after he allegedly observed him walking through a public park in boxer shirts, while shirtless, and allegedly carrying a bow and arrow. He faces a charge of obstructing a peace officer.
