Leonard James Livingston, 83, of Toledo, Illinois passed away at 1:50 pm on Sunday, February 14, 2016 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham, surrounded by his family.
He was born on March 4, 1932 in Mattoon, the son of Ervin and Ella (Coats) Livingston. On May 8, 1955 he married Luella Fern Elliott at the Toledo Christian Church; she survives. He also leaves a son, Leonard E. Livingston of Toledo; two daughters, Carol (Jim) Morgan of Jewett and Judy (Tony) Rinehart of Effingham; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Grace Zumwalt of Greenup and Ruth Smith of Mattoon; and one brother, John Livingston of Toledo. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, one brother and one great-grandchild.
He served his country in active military service with the Army from November 1952 to November 1954. He received the Award of the Commendation Ribbon with Medal Pendant as part of the Chemical Corps., 71st Chemical (Smoke Generator) Company while he was in Korea. After military service, he worked at Young Radiator in Mattoon for 30+ years until the plant was closed. He later worked at Wolf Furniture and Heilig Meyers Furniture Stores and McDonalds in Effingham. He was a member of the Toledo Christian Church. He loved his family and loved all things outdoors. He loved to mushroom hunt, enjoyed gardening, in his earlier years loved to work with bees, hunt, fish, or just walk in the woods. He was a quiet person that was very patient and kind and will be deeply missed by those that loved him.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Toledo Christian Church, with visitation preceding from 9:30 am until the service time. Rev. Greg Boldt will be officiating. Burial will be at the Toledo Cemetery with Military Rites. Barkley Funeral Chapel in Toledo is in charge of arrangements.
