According to the Mattoon Police Department, Mattoon police arrested Jose A. Rosario, age 20 of Chicago, and 3 juveniles also of Chicago, on Sunday Feb. 14th at 10:25 p.m. The arrests occurred in the 800 block of North 22nd street.
Rosario as well as the juveniles, were charged with Unlawful use of a Weapon. The charges allege that Rosario and the juveniles were shooting a .25 caliber pistol within Dodge Grove cemetery at night. Furthermore, one juvenile was also charged with Defacing the Identification Mark of a Firearm. That charge alleges that the juvenile filed off the serial number of the handgun. Rosario was issued a Notice to Appear in Coles County Court. The juveniles will be petitioned into juvenile court.
A 5th suspect, Vito J. Jachimiak, age 38 of Mattoon was also arrested in regards to this incident on Feb. 15th at 3:05 a.m. He was charged with Obstructing Justice. That charge alleges that he attempted to impede the police investigation and prevent the apprehension of the other suspects. Jachimiak was taken to the Coles County jail.
