According to the News-Gazette Online the Champaign-Urbana Public Health District Administrator Julie Pryde has confirmed the first case of the Zika Virus in Champaign County. The State Department of Public Health lab did confirm the positive results this past Friday Sept. 2nhd 2016, but as to who has contracted the virus still remains unknown. Pryde also couldn’t confirm or deny two weeks ago whether the positive results were from a female student who recently traveled to a Zika Virus affected area who had sought treatment from UI McKinley Health Center when back home. But McKinley Director Dr. Robert Palinkas did confirm that it was the student in question affected by the virus. With a large portion of the community that has traveled to areas affected with Zika Virus, it was possible for individuals among the community to be exposed and contract the virus as well as possibly spread it.
