Illinois State Police released the preliminary investigative on an accident in Fayette County, near St. Elmo, last night October 21, 2016, around 11:30 pm that involved livestock. Cory Acker, 26, Shreve, OH was traveling on I-70 WB near St Elmo in his truck tractor pulling semi trailer hauling cattle, when a deer ran out in front of his truck. He tried to avoid hitting the deer, but went into the center median where his truck tractor livestock hauler
overturned onto the driver side. Several cattle did get loose and as a result there were 5 more crashes where vehicles hit the cattle. Luckily there were no injuries reported in any of the crashes. 11 cattle died. I-70 was closed and rerouted onto U.S. 40 for several hours.
